A psychological‑horror one‑shot for Dread.
I’ve spent years running tabletop RPGs across a variety of systems, gradually building a personal library of campaigns, settings, and one‑shots. Wanting to organize and structure my scattered projects somewhat, I've started the work of polishing a handful of scenarios and making them publicly available.
Dread is one of my favorite systems, and most of my one-shot scenarios are written with Dread in mind. The scenario is no exception but it can, of course, also be played in other systems.
About the scenario
A Cabin in the Woods was the first scenario I ever created for any system. It was originally created for Dread, but has been played in several different systems through the years. It's also gone through numerous iterations and changes during that time. It's inspired by Norwegian folklore and uses isolation as its main horror mechanic.
The story unfolds in and around a remote cabin nestled in the Norwegian wilderness, where a group of teenage friends get together for one final weekend together before life scatters them in different directions. As a mysterious storm rolls in, this weekend of fun and games take a darker turn as the group realize they’re not alone. Something ancient and hungry watches them from the shadows, and they will eventually find themselves in a race for survival.
