Wanted: Igor

Developer: Kvasir Games

My role: Game Designer

Platform: Board Game

Release: 2014

Wanted: Igor! is a monster‑building board game where players take turns playing cards to assemble as many creatures as possible under Dr. Frankenstein’s orders.

Origins

The game came about during Nordic Game Jam 2013 under the title Beast Builder. We were a team of 5 who came together to create the game. We had worked together before on Mussades, but went into this jam with the purpose of exploring whether we could design something that was cheaper to produce and sell than our previous project.
The game was selected as one of eleven finalists at the jam and won the Most Sellable Board Game award. We later co-founded a company, Kvasir Games, and after several months of post‑jam development, Wanted: Igor! was officially released on 6 February 2014. It was sold online, as well as in local board game shops. Though it's technically not available for sale anywhere right now, you can still purchase a copy by contacting me directly.

My role

While we all participated in the design iteration process, we also all took on other responsibilities around the creation and release of the game. As a small student startup, we all wore many hats through the process and we shuffled the work around as needed. I was mostly responsible for the production pipeline, dealing with the communications with the factory where the game was produced, managing digital and physical assets, as well as organizing the logistics around production, shipping and selling.
