Mussades is an Arabian‑themed, race‑to‑the‑finish board game that uses hexagonal tiles to construct a maze as it's being navigated. The game was created in 48 hours at the Nordic Game Jam 2012 by a five‑person team. This was the project that lead to the creation of the company Kvasir Games.
The core mechanic revolves around having only three room tiles in play at any time. When a new room tile is revealed, the oldest tile is discarded, and any player occupying that tile is eliminated. This creates a fast‑paced, constantly shifting board that forces players to adapt their routes on the fly. The game is built around the proverb "I don’t have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you.” and is filled with ways of backstabbing and slowing down your opponents while trying to create an advantage for yourself.
Mussades was selected as one of twelve finalists at the Nordic Game Jam 2012 and won Best Board Game as well as the Jury’s Choice Award from David McCarthy (GREE). Although the game was never released commercially, it remains a defining project in my career and a cornerstone of the identity of Kvasir Games. It was the game that brought us all together.
